Antibiotic Resistance: a Silent Pandemic

Antibiotic Resistance: a Silent Pandemic

Abstract

Background:

One of the alarming barriers of health issues of human being is bacterial diseases. From the invention of “Salvarsan” the first antibiotic, antibiotics had been used on a large scale to prevent these diseases and those antibiotics were maximum effective against bacterial agents. But an intrinsic capability of various bacteria to change and alter their own genomic structure in order for their survival created a “Not so well known, silent, dangerous” pandemic, that is “Antibiotic Resistance”! Various bacteria like E. coli, staphylococcus, salmonella are evolving in such a way that they are becoming resistant to many well known antibiotics in the market, which resulted in reduction in efficiency and action of these antibiotics which causes health deviation and even death!

Goal and outcome:

Our goal is to identify and show this silent problem prevailing in Bangladesh and the world, mainly showing mechanism and trend of resistance and  problems and complication of antibiotic resistance. We also want to show resistant pattern of two most common bacterial agents, E. coli and Staphylococcus. Side by side, we also want to project common prevention and control measures of this silent pandemic. We expect that we can create minimum awareness and spread some valuable information among knowledge enthusiasts of this silent pandemic.
